Sizing & Fitting Guidelines
The Seattle Splint is available in four adult and three pediatric sizes to accommodate a wide range of patient demographics. Use the reference chart to determine size.
When a patient’s measurements fall between two sizes, clinical judgment should prioritize anatomical support and mobility safety.
Ensure the following clinical parameters are met.
Fitting Checklist
- Knee Clearance: Allow for a hand’s width of space between the back of the knee and the top of the splint.
- Toe Protection: The toes should not extend over the splint.
- Range of Motion: The splint must allow full knee flexion.

*When fitting an adult patient to attach a Thigh Extension, calf length is the sole determinant for the Seattle Splint size. Calf length is the distance from the heel to the popliteal space with the leg extended.
Putting on the Seattle Splint

1. Place foot flat against the foot plate.

2. Gently yet firmly, push down at the anterior ankle to slide the foot down into the splint at a neutral position.

3. Cross the padded ankle strap over the ankle to buckle.

4. Slide the bar of the slide buckle into the hook buckle.

5. Pull on the strap to tighten. Do not overtighten — a finger should easily slide under the pad.

6. Cross the second ankle strap over the pad. Buckle. Bring the padded shin strap across the tibia and buckle.
Using the Buckles

1. To buckle, the slide bar goes onto the hook.

2. To tighten, pull strap end.

3. To loosen, pull the strap over the hook to release.

4. To unhook, turn the slide bar like a key to slip it out of the hook.
How to Customize the Seattle Splint
Engineered for adaptability. The Seattle Splint features a malleable shell.

Conform to the Calf
While the Seattle Splint is on the patient, cradle the back of the splint in your hands and squeeze the sides together to narrow and form the splint around the calf.

Widen the Calf
Place the back of the Seattle Splint against your chest for support as you spread the splint’s sides to the desired calf width.

Adjust the Ankle Width and Angle
Position the Seattle Splint over the back of a chair and push down above the weld line, then below it, to adjust the splint’s ankle width or increase dorsiflexion by up to 5 degrees. Never push directly on the weld line.
