The Seattle Splint was born out of clinical necessity. PFS Med, was founded by an occupational therapist who saw a critical gap in lower extremity malleable splinting. PFS Med and its mission were clear: design a splint that fits patients well while providing access for wound care and therapy.

The Seattle Splint was born out of clinical necessity. PFS Med, was founded by an occupational therapist who saw a critical gap in lower extremity malleable splinting. PFS Med and its mission were clear: design a splint that fits patients well while providing access for wound care and therapy.
From Clinical Concept to Industry Standard
Originally introduced to the medical community as the Posterior Foot Splint (PFS) and later the Tibial Ankle Foot Orthosis (TAFO), the device earned its true name on the front lines of healthcare.
Materialized in Seattle, WA, orthopaedic trauma surgeons consistently referred to it simply as the “Seattle Splint” — a name as memorable and resilient as the device itself. In 2023, at the Orthopaedic Trauma Association Annual Meeting in Seattle, we officially named it the Seattle Splint.
The Seattle Splint has been a key part of my practice for more than 15 years. It’s both comfortable and adjustable, with malleable metal that conforms to the patient and a deep heel cut-out to decrease the risk of pressure ulcers. It’s a rare product that is cost-effective without being cheaply constructed. It’s mandatory equipment for my lower extremity trauma patients.
